We’re looking for a great teacher of Mathematics at XP Gateshead

“If I were to make a list of the best schools in the world, XP would be on that list.”, Ron Berger, Chief Academic Officer of Expeditionary Learning, a network of over 160 schools in the USA.

If you are a teacher looking for a model of schooling that dares to break the mould then this might just be for you.

XP Gateshead is a mainstream 11-16 Secondary School. We are deliberately sized, with each year having 50 students. Building strong relationships is at the core of our school model; we know our staff, students and families well.

We are looking for great people who want to become even better to join our school.

What if teaching Maths could be about more than covering the curriculum, preparing students for examinations and getting through the next lesson? What if every young person could develop a deep understanding of mathematics, recognise its beauty and power, and leave school believing that they really are a mathematician? At XP Gateshead, that’s the ambition – where Maths is the connective tissue between disciplines such as statistics, geography and sciences.

We are looking to recruit a Maths teacher to join our STEM team at the newest of our extraordinary schools.

You could join our team at the newest of our extraordinary schools: XP Gateshead, a Maths team that thinks, learns and gets better together.

Great Maths teaching doesn’t happen in isolation. You’ll work alongside colleagues who are committed to developing their practice, thinking hard about curriculum design and sharing responsibility for the success of every learner.

You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development, explore evidence-informed approaches to teaching and learning, and work with colleagues across XP Trust to continually improve the experience and outcomes of our students.

We want someone who brings expertise and ideas, but who is also curious, reflective and willing to keep learning.

Our rigorous 3-D approach develops activism, leadership and equity in our students by creating beautiful work, which develops character and ensures that our children achieve academic success. As a part of our team you would also be a Crew Leader for 12-13 students.

We will consider applicants at all stages of their teaching careers.

Teaching at XP

At XP Trust, our teachers are more than educators; they are creators, leaders, and role models. You will work collaboratively to design and deliver innovative, interdisciplinary learning expeditions that inspire students to think deeply, work courageously, and act with integrity. We expect you to set high standards for both academic excellence and character development, guiding students to craft beautiful, meaningful work that leaves a lasting impact on their community and the world. As a member of our Crew, you’ll foster a culture of teamwork, equity, and belonging, embodying the values of respect, craftsmanship, and compassion every day.

Joining XP Trust means becoming part of a community that does things differently. We believe education is about more than passing exams – it’s about shaping thoughtful, capable, and kind individuals who are ready to change the world. Here, you’ll collaborate with passionate colleagues to create groundbreaking learning experiences, supported by a culture that prioritises personal growth and professional development. If you want to teach in a school where your creativity is valued, your work makes a difference, and you can be part of something bigger than yourself, XP Trust is the place for you.

We believe a person is judged by their character and the quality of work they produce.. Through our cross-curricular learning expeditions students study and address important guiding questions, making connections between disciplines and across time. Our students are changing our community for the better having hosted a public health conference with a motion that demanded that we learn from the past and local health data and data from their own fieldwork studies. Our students are published authors, having created a local history book; they are published podcasters having created a podcast about forgotten voices of war. Our students learn that they are important because they can do work that matters.

This role is based at our secondary school in Gateshead. There are six other schools in our Trust which are based in Doncaster. You would also work closely with colleagues from across our Trust, particularly in your subject area. There is an extensive induction process when joining our Trust.

XP Gateshead is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and the successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced check via the Disclosure and Barring Service .

If you would like any further information please contact us by email at [email protected] or by telephone on 01914814360.
