GQ: Why should we care about migration?
Expedition lead: S Robinson
Curriculum: Hums
Phase/Year group: Secondary, Year 8
Delivery date: January 2020
Should I stay or should I go is a Year 8 Expedition, run between September 2019 and January 2020.
The learning targets were:
- I can use the second order history concept of cause and consequence to discuss the context of Of Mice and Men.
- I can evaluate how far rural-urban migration leads to social and economic opportunities for people in a NEE.
- I can evaluate texts critically explaining and analysing how they use language and structure to achieve effects and influence the reader.
- I can use a range of vocabulary and subject terminology for clarity, purpose and effect with accurate spelling and punctuation.
The end product was a documentary film created by Year 8 students at XP & XP East schools over a number of weeks in the Autumn of 2019. Working with the support of the Doncaster charity the Conversation Club and the people they help, the film is about migration and the stories that deserve to be told.
