This is our community. These are our stories. Come and be a part of it.

Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of young children?

Green Top School is looking for a passionate, caring, and committed SEND Learning Coach to join our Crew. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a school where relationships matter, creativity is celebrated, and children learn through beautiful, purposeful work.

At Green Top, Learning Coaches (our name for Teaching Assistants) are not just there to support learning – they help shape it. You’ll work alongside teachers to deliver rich, engaging Learning Expeditions that spark curiosity and build character, while supporting individual pupils to thrive.

If you’re someone who believes in working hard, getting smart, and being kind, and you’re ready to help our youngest learners take confident steps on their journey – you’ll fit right in.

About the role

Green Top Primary School is a proudly inclusive school at the heart of the Thorne community. We are committed to improving the life chances of every child, ensuring that all learners are supported to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our Umbrella Room is a bespoke, developmental provision within Green Top, designed for children with communication and interaction differences who benefit from a highly structured, sensory-rich and nurturing environment. The provision offers an adapted version of our expeditionary curriculum and a holistic approach to learning that supports pupils’ individual EHCP and SEN plan outcomes.

Due to the ongoing success and growth of the Umbrella Room, we are seeking to appoint a skilled, passionate Learning Coach to join our dedicated team from 28th November 2025.

The Umbrella Room currently supports a small group of pupils (EYFS–Lower KS2) whose primary needs relate to communication and interaction / Autism Spectrum Condition, alongside significant developmental and sensory differences. Learning is delivered through a bespoke developmental curriculum with high staff-to-pupil ratios, continuous provision, and structured routines that prioritise communication, regulation, and engagement.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work closely with the SENDCo, Umbrella Room Lead, and wider school team, as well as external professionals such as ASCETS, Educational Psychologist and the Early Years SEND team.
  • Implement targeted interventions such as Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism Intervention, Zones of Regulation, Sensory Sessions and Bespoke Communication and Interaction support strategies.
  • Contribute to the creation of a calm, structured and engaging environment where children can develop their communication, independence and self-regulation skills.
  • Support pupils to access a range of personalised learning experiences linked to their developmental stage and individual targets.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of supporting pupils with communication and interaction needs or Autism, ideally within a developmental or specialist provision.
  • Understands the importance of positive relationships, consistency, and clear routines in supporting children with SEND.
  • Is calm, nurturing, and creative, with a passion for enabling children to succeed through personalised, hands-on learning experiences.
  • Can work as part of a collaborative and reflective team, contributing to a culture where inclusion and belonging are at the heart of all we do.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, initiative and a commitment to continuous professional growth.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to work within a highly supportive team where inclusion, collaboration and professional development are valued.
  • Ongoing training linked to SEND practice, including Communication and Interaction strategies, Zones of Regulation, and Sensory Integration approaches.
  • A chance to make a real difference in the lives of children who access a truly bespoke curriculum and to be part of a provision that celebrates every success, big or small.

If you believe every child deserves to belong, be understood and achieve, and you want to be part of an innovative and compassionate provision that places inclusion at the heart of everything it does, we would love to hear from you.

Teaching at Green Top

At Green Top, teaching is about more than just delivering lessons – it’s about building relationships, nurturing curiosity, and helping children discover who they are.

Our staff work as Crew – collaboratively planning and delivering rich, meaningful learning experiences rooted in XP’s Expeditionary Learning approach. As a Learning Coach you’ll play a vital role in creating a classroom culture that is kind, courageous and ambitious.

We hold high expectations for every child, both academically and personally. We believe that character is just as important as curriculum, and that learning should be joyful, purposeful and connected to the real world.

When you teach at Green Top, you’re not just part of a school – you’re part of a community. You’ll be supported, challenged, and given the opportunity to make a real difference in children’s lives every single day.

Learning Expeditions: Real-World Learning That Matters

At XP Trust, learning is an adventure. Our students engage in Learning Expeditions – interdisciplinary projects that connect subjects like science, history, and English around a central, compelling question.

These Expeditions are designed to:

  • Foster deep understanding across subjects
  • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Encourage students to produce high-quality, meaningful work

Take this Expedition as an example, where students explored the guiding question, “What will I do to be a Superhero in my community?”

The final product of this particular Expedition was a documentary – but our students produce books, conferences, campaigns and more!

Our approach ensures that learning is not only academically rigorous but also relevant and impactful.

Crew: Building Stronger Communities

Every student and staff member at XP Trust is part of a Crew – a small, supportive group that functions like a school family.

Crew sessions focus on:

  • Academic support and goal setting
  • Character development and reflection
  • Team-building activities

This structure ensures that each student is known, supported, and challenged to be their best self.

As one of our students puts it, “In Crew, we learn to work together, support each other, and grow as individuals.”

We build Crew in a number of ways – both in the classroom and out. Here are some reflections on Crew from our Year 7 cohort – just three days after starting at XP School.

XP Trust

Our Design Principles

‘At XP, we build our community through…

  • Activism
  • Leadership
  • and Equity…

sharing our stories as we go.’

These design principles are the basis for all our work. We focus on enabling our students to create beautiful work that creates agency and has a positive impact on the world; we encourage leadership in our students by facilitating the ownership of their own learning; and we have an unabated insistence on equity to ensure that we remove any barriers that inhibit student growth and success.

Therefore, at XP we focus relentlessly on high quality work and character growth. As a result, our school culture is value driven. Therefore, we expect our children, staff and parents to be courageous, respectful, committed to craftsmanship and quality, compassionate and to always show integrity. We provide an authentically tough and rewarding education for everyone, and we believe this is best achieved through not segregating our children by any measure, such as social class or academic ability.

We believe a person is judged by their character and the quality of work they produce. Our school focuses continuously on these two crucial areas of development.  Our children express who they are by personalising their work, and are given time to produce beautiful and meaningful work by following a process of multiple drafts and critique, working towards creating products which are indistinguishable from professionals. Every day, our children develop their habits of work and learning by working hard,  getting smart and being kind, and reflecting on our character values of courage, respect, craftsmanship and quality, compassion and integrity.
