This is our community. These are our stories. Come and be a part of it.
Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of young children?
Green Top School is looking for a passionate, caring, and committed Learning Coach to join our Crew. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a school where relationships matter, creativity is celebrated, and children learn through beautiful, purposeful work.
We’re looking in particular for applicants who have experience working with vulnerable children.
At Green Top, Learning Coaches (our name for Teaching Assistants) are not just there to support learning – they help shape it. You’ll work alongside teachers to deliver rich, engaging Learning Expeditions that spark curiosity and build character, while supporting individual pupils to thrive.
If you’re someone who believes in working hard, getting smart, and being kind, and you’re ready to help our youngest learners take confident steps on their journey – you’ll fit right in.
Teaching at Green Top
At Green Top, teaching is about more than just delivering lessons – it’s about building relationships, nurturing curiosity, and helping children discover who they are.
Our staff work as Crew – collaboratively planning and delivering rich, meaningful learning experiences rooted in XP’s Expeditionary Learning approach. As a Learning Coach you’ll play a vital role in creating a classroom culture that is kind, courageous and ambitious.
We hold high expectations for every child, both academically and personally. We believe that character is just as important as curriculum, and that learning should be joyful, purposeful and connected to the real world.
When you teach at Green Top, you’re not just part of a school – you’re part of a community. You’ll be supported, challenged, and given the opportunity to make a real difference in children’s lives every single day.
Learning Expeditions: Real-World Learning That Matters
At XP Trust, learning is an adventure. Our students engage in Learning Expeditions – interdisciplinary projects that connect subjects like science, history, and English around a central, compelling question.
These Expeditions are designed to:
- Foster deep understanding across subjects
- Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Encourage students to produce high-quality, meaningful work
Take this Expedition as an example, where students explored the guiding question, “What will I do to be a Superhero in my community?”
The final product of this particular Expedition was a documentary – but our students produce books, conferences, campaigns and more!
Our approach ensures that learning is not only academically rigorous but also relevant and impactful.
Crew: Building Stronger Communities
Every student and staff member at XP Trust is part of a Crew – a small, supportive group that functions like a school family.
Crew sessions focus on:
- Academic support and goal setting
- Character development and reflection
- Team-building activities
This structure ensures that each student is known, supported, and challenged to be their best self.
As one of our students puts it, “In Crew, we learn to work together, support each other, and grow as individuals.”
We build Crew in a number of ways – both in the classroom and out. Here are some reflections on Crew from our Year 7 cohort – just three days after starting at XP School.

Our Design Principles
‘At XP, we build our community through…
- Activism,
- Leadership
- and Equity…
sharing our stories as we go.’
These design principles are the basis for all our work. We focus on enabling our students to create beautiful work that creates agency and has a positive impact on the world; we encourage leadership in our students by facilitating the ownership of their own learning; and we have an unabated insistence on equity to ensure that we remove any barriers that inhibit student growth and success.
Therefore, at XP we focus relentlessly on high quality work and character growth. As a result, our school culture is value driven. Therefore, we expect our children, staff and parents to be courageous, respectful, committed to craftsmanship and quality, compassionate and to always show integrity. We provide an authentically tough and rewarding education for everyone, and we believe this is best achieved through not segregating our children by any measure, such as social class or academic ability.
We believe a person is judged by their character and the quality of work they produce. Our school focuses continuously on these two crucial areas of development. Our children express who they are by personalising their work, and are given time to produce beautiful and meaningful work by following a process of multiple drafts and critique, working towards creating products which are indistinguishable from professionals. Every day, our children develop their habits of work and learning by working hard, getting smart and being kind, and reflecting on our character values of courage, respect, craftsmanship and quality, compassion and integrity.
