Following the Department for Education (DfE) pay offer for both teaching and support staff staff will receive this in their September salaries. For support staff it will be backdated to April.

The rates of 4% increase on all spine points for teachers, and 3.2% on all spine points for support staff have now been accepted by unions, despite NOT being fully funded by the DfE.

The DfE is providing grants equivalent to 1.7% for teachers and 0.9% for support staff.

The DfE has stated that 1.3% can be funded through our General Annual Grant, which we would normally use for classroom resources and all other educational provisions for students.

For the remaining 1% the DfE has stated that schools are expected to find this through ‘productivity gains and smarter spending’

The DfE has awarded a pay rise to all staff in schools, but provided funding to schools for LESS THAN HALF of the additional cost.

This means we have no choice but to self-fund 2.3% of the pay rise (equivalent to £300,000) for both teaching and support staff.

As a result, our projected budget of 5% surplus in August 2026 has now been significantly reduced to 2%. Any capital projects and investments in future savings (i.e. solar panels and building improvement) have had to be paused.
