Members of Green Top’s Crew Council and Year 5/6 Ambassadors attended a VE Day celebration at Moorends Community Centre, where they helped serve Afternoon Tea to over 100 local residents before enjoying some food themselves. They had the opportunity to chat with local councillor Mark Houlbrook and Doncaster’s newly appointed MP, Lee Pitcher. The event also featured a performance by the cast of the upcoming school production, The Wizard of Oz, which was well received. The children successfully raised over £200 to support costumes and set pieces for the show. One of the army veterans who attended the event was so impressed with the high levels of respect and maturity shown by the children that he visited our school the following day to personally thank them. As a gesture of appreciation, he gave each child who took part in the celebration a bar of chocolate, leaving them feeling proud and valued for their contributions.
