“If I were to make a list of the best schools in the world, XP would be on that list.” – Ron Berger, Senior Advisor, Expeditionary Learning USA.
If you are a leader looking for a model of schooling that dares to break the mould, and genuinely connects the creative arts to the whole curriculum, then this might just be for you.
We are looking for great people who want to become even better to join our school.
XP Gateshead is a new mainstream 11-16 Secondary School that opened in August 2021. We are a deliberately sized school with each year having 50 students, we currently have 200 students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10. We are now looking to recruit a Faculty Leader of the ARTS which incorporates disciplines of Art, Photography, Media, DT, Creative Computing and Music.
We are particularly interested in leaders with teaching expertise in Art & Design, Photography and Media. Additional skills in Design Technology would be welcome too.
At XPG, School Faculty Leads work closely with Trust Subject Leads and their role is essentially about “implementation and impact” of our expeditionary curriculum model.
Working at XP Gateshead
Our rigorous 3-D approach develops activism, leadership and equity in our students by creating beautiful work, which develops character and ensures that our children achieve academic success.
We believe a person is judged by their character and the quality of work they produce. As such the creative arts are at the heart of our curriculum. We teach through cross-curricular learning expeditions where students address important guiding questions, making connections between disciplines.
Our children express who they are by personalising their work, and are given time to produce beautiful and meaningful work by following a process of multiple drafts and critique, working towards creating products which are curated in the community and are indistinguishable from the work of professionals.
You will join our team of dedicated professionals in an innovative school setting with the purpose of improving life chances for young people in Gateshead. As a part of our team you would also be a Crew Leader for 12-13 students.
